Donald Trump has mocked Greta Thunberg by telling her to ‘chill’ and work on her ‘anger management problem.’

The President of the United States, 73, unleashed the crude tirade against the 16 year-old climate change activist a day after she was named Time magazine’s person of the year.

He responded to a tweet from his actress friend Roma Downey congratulating Greta, who has Asperger’s syndrome, on award by writing: ‘So ridiculous.

‘Greta must work on her Anger Management problem, then go to a good old fashioned movie with a friend! Chill Greta, Chill!’

The president’s supporters were quick to share their own photoshopped version of the Time magazine cover, with the President’s head superimposed on Thunberg’s body.

Trump has previously been accused of trolling the Swedish eco warrior after unexpectedly turning up at a UN climate change summit she attended in New York City in September.

A clip appearing to show Thunberg glare at Trump was widely-shared online, with the president then tweeting an apparent tribute many claimed was sarcastic.

He wrote: ‘She seems like a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future. So nice to see!’

Thunberg hit the headlines after sailing across the Atlantic to the summit in a sparsely-furnished boat to avoid generating tons of carbon by taking a transatlantic flight.

She has become the figurehead of the growing climate crisis movement, and has been credited with dramatically increasing awareness of the dangers posed by climate change, particularly among young people.

Trump has long portrayed himself as a climate-change skeptic, and has repeatedly refused to be drawn on whether he believes man-made climate change exists.

In 2018, he announced he was taking the US out of the 2015 Paris Accord aimed at tackling the climate crisis after claiming it represented a ‘bad deal’ for the US.

Derry-born Downey, best known for starring in TV drama Touched By An Angel, appears to have congratulated Greta without any hint of sarcasm.

Her TV executive husband Mark Burnett created The Apprentice, the reality show which cemented Trump’s fame, and continues to be one of the president’s richest and most vociferous supporters.
